Gelli Plate

Flowers and Lace

Discover the intuitive and joyful art of monoprinting in this hands-on workshop. Using a flexible gelli plate, you will learn how to capture the delicate textures and intricate details into your art. This process allows you to create unique prints without the need for a traditional printing press. Using a brayer to apply smooth, even layers of acrylic paint to the gelli plate, we'll press our items into the plate, transferring textures and patterns onto the paper. Play with color theory, translucency, and layers.

All materials will be provided, but please feel free to bring your own textures. Items will likely be destroyed in the process of printing, and need to be able to lie flat between two pieces of paper. Other items, like pine cones, will create a very neat texture that looks nothing like a pinecone - but very fun all the same!

This class is beginner-friendly and perfect for anyone looking to reconnect with their creative side. Whether you want to create framed art, unique greeting cards, or beautiful papers for collage and mixed media, this low-pressure environment encourages play and experimentation.

Where to Find Us

This class is located in the maker’s space at the back of the Stephanie Hargrave Gallery. There’s no better place to make art than surrounded by art and artists in the heart of Seattle’s Pioneer Square!

Stephanie’s gallery is on the 2nd floor (suite 104) of the Tashiro Kaplan Building, home of 25 art galleries, co-ops, art spaces, and 50 artist live/work lofts. This historic building (built in 1906 and remodeled in 2004), has preserved stucco beams and preserved storefronts, along with large bright windows to light up our workspace.

The area around the gallery has free parking on Sundays.

Sound Transit’s Link Pioneer Square station is just a few blocks away, and Metro Transit’s D line has a stop just around the corner.
